By Ms. Sarah Poole, Senior School Service Director

We are thrilled to again offer a service trip to Dominican Republic over Spring Break. Learn more about our mission and how to donate to the community school.

Transforming lives. Over Spring Break, 18 WPGA students will have to opportunity to do just that. This year’s international outreach project will again be in Monte Cristi, Dominican Republic in partnership with Outreach 360, a grassroots organization that provides supplementary critical education opportunities to children living in economically disadvantaged area. (Children in the Dominican Republic are offered only two hours of public education a day, and most leave school by age 13!) Our students will teach children ages 6-12, working in a public school or in Outreach 360's Learning Centre.

As Director of Service, I am excited to see our students share their time and talents with those in need. This is a rich and rewarding learning experience for all involved, one that directly connects our students to the needs of the community and immerses them in the culture.

Since 1996, West Point Grey Academy has gratefully resided on the Jericho Lands, the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam Indian Band), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) Nation and sə̓lílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nation. Honoured to learn and play on these beautiful lands, we endeavour to be a leader in Indigenous education. In creating shared understanding and opportunities, we hope to help foster a more equitable society for all.
