Living in Vancouver is a luxury. We have access to the most up-to-date technology, beautiful beaches with breathtaking views and the finest cuisines. We usually take it for granted. However, for some kids, these are somethings they can’t enjoy because they are struggling for survival. Homelessness is a reality for hundreds of homeless youth between the ages of 16 and 24 across Vancouver. Some might have escaped abusive homes, some might have been forced out of their homes because of their gender identities and/or sexuality, and some might have been abandoned by their parents. Sadly, they are often misunderstood and neglected by society.
WPGA is again joining local schools and organizations to support Project Backpack, a community program that provides backpacks filled with essential personal care items to street youth. It also lets them know that the community cares about them.
We invite all students to bring in a needed item, such as:
warm clothing, e.g. socks, sweaters, gloves
hygiene products, e.g. combs, razors, tampons, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant
drugstore/supermarket gift cards, e.g. London Drugs, Shoppers Drug Mart, No Frills
pre-loaded Compass cards
You can sign up for a specific item with your advisor. Please bring in donations by April 18 to your advisory. Thank you!
