Our student-led sharing sessions will take place Wednesday, March 3. This year student-led conferences will take place at home. Teachers will help students prepare materials that they can present to parents in their own home. Conferences will take 15-20 minutes.
Depending on the child’s age, students will have a physical and/or a digital learning portfolio as well as a guide that has been prepared with assistance from the teacher. The guide may include a sequence of events for the child to follow, prompts for the student, or questions that parents can ask their child to help the reflection process.
In addition, parents have the option of signing up for one 10-minute virtual meeting with their child’s homeroom teacher and one 10-minute meeting with an additional teacher. This process will be similar to the Progress and Goal-Sharing Conferences in October. Registration for homeroom teachers opens Tuesday, February 16 at 9am and can be accessed at WolfNet > Resources > Student-Led Sharing Sessions. Registration for specialists will open Friday, February 19 at 9am. To facilitate these conferences, there are no classes March 3.
For these annual sessions, students share with parents their learning journey and the goals they have set. The sessions align with the provincial focus on reflective goal-setting and Core Competencies: the sets of intellectual, personal, and social and emotional proficiencies that all students need to develop to be lifelong learners.
In conjunction with the student-led conferences, the March 2021 Student Learning Report will be released the afternoon of March 2.
At WPGA, we have long implemented the philosophy embedded in the BC curriculum, helping students set realistic goals for themselves and encouraging reflection to enhance learning and comprehension.
