This week's Careers Week inspired many grades 10-12 students to explore new career paths. Hats off to Ms. Fraser and all of our speakers!
By Jan Prchal, Grade 12
At this week's Careers Week, we welcomed 26 distinguished professionals to speak to grades 10-12 students about their career paths and work experiences. At every lunch hour, four or five speakers each presented in different classrooms, with students having selected in advance which speaker session they would attend each day.
Although some of us were familiar with many of the presenters (most of whom are WPGA parents or otherwise connected to the school), it was great to see them in a different light--as experts in their field. From diplomacy, business and finance to law, community development and entertainment, they presented the ins and outs of each industry and profession, advising on education, work life, and the career choices that led them to where they are today.
For me, learning about modern education system and workplace was incredibly interesting, and will be useful as I consider my future career path.
Thank you, Ms. Fraser, for organizing this excellent (and practical) event. And thank you to all of our guest speakers, who took time out of their busy schedules to speak to us. We hope these sessions will take place each year!
