Maintenance Technician

As our Maintenance Technician, you will be responsible for completing minor service requests such as lightbulb changes, painting/dry wall repairs, minor plumbing/electrical repairs. In addition, you will ensure quality presentation of our sites by completing exterior site maintenance such as grounds keeping, power washing, window cleaning, and minor landscaping. You’re the type of person who is not afraid to get your hands dirty and are often seen as the “fix-it” person amongst your friends. You have a knack for perfection and enjoy creating a neat, tidy and well-maintained experience for our students that makes them say “Wow!”
This is a full-time permanent position; typically, with daytime hours (7 am to 3 pm) and can include weekend work, evening hours and overtime.
I. Building Maintenance
  • Regularly inspect HVAC, Mechanical, Pool and Electrical systems and report to the manager
  • Carry out all assigned maintenance and repair tasks as requested online, via email or assigned by the manager such as leaking water lines, overflowing toilets, broken plumbing fixtures and carrying out of repairs
  • Perform repairs outside of those required to be done by a licensed tradesman
  • Backup to Maintenance and Facilities Manager for response to emergency situations
  • Ensure that the work site is safe
  • Ensure equipment and power tools are in good working condition
II. Event Support
  • Set up for both large and small events. Includes building, assembling, large staging, seating for up to 1,000 both off and onsite
  • Supports school events as needed

III. Furniture Moving and Deliveries
  • Furniture of all types from heavy desks to student chairs and desks are frequently move
  • All parcels are delivered to a drop point and are then delivered throughout the School
IV. Exterior Grounds and Gardens
The school is on a very large site and the grounds require constant upkeep year-round.
  • Snow removal, salting and snow blower operation and maintenance of walkways
  • Basic landscape work including working with flower beds, pruning, watering and lawn mowing as required
  • Set up signage, traffic cones and barriers for morning drop off and pick up of students
  • If required, janitorial work can be a part of the duties and responsibilities
  • As part of the duty team, supervise students at their recess and lunch breaks
  • Assist in emergency preparedness and fire drills
  • Participate in any course upgrades assigned by the Maintenance and Facilities Manager or of self-interest upgrading your qualifications
  • Delivering and picking up material off site
  • Help with security when required
  • Overtime and weekend work as required
  • Escort and help contractors when they are working on the site
  • Experience in plumbing, HVAC or general handyman required
  • Must be able to do heavy lifting (up to 70lbs) and stair climbing
  • Five or more years maintenance experience required
  • Ability to work in a school environment, with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality and strong attention to detail
  • Knowledge, skills, abilities and characteristics needed to do the job effectively
  • High school or equivalent diploma
  • Fluent in oral and written English
  • Valid BC (Class 5) Driver’s License
  • Clearance for a criminal record check
  • Have a personality that demonstrates good interpersonal skills that interact well with students, staff, parents, and co-workers
  • WHMIS Certificate
  • First Aid Certificate an asset
  • Pool Operator Level 2 Certificate an asset
