International Outreach – Dominican Republic Spring Break 2019

By Ms. Sarah Poole, Director of Service, Senior School

Building Futures. Transforming Lives. Over Spring Break, 20 students in grades 11 and 12 will have to opportunity to do just that. Our 2018-2019 international outreach project will be in Monte Cristi, Dominican Republic for the seventh consecutive year with Outreach 360, an organization that transforms the lives of children in economically disadvantaged areas by providing critical education opportunities.

As Director of Service, I am excited that our students continue to have this incredibly rewarding opportunity to share their time and talents with others who will benefit so much from their friendship, teaching and care.

Although participating students are responsible for fundraising for their trip, WPGA would like to raise an additional $1,000 for Outreach360’s learning centre/resources in Monte Cristi. To donate to the WPGA Team Page, click here.

Heartfelt thanks to everyone who has contributed thus far to this service learning experience, which will be a journey that will change the lives of all involved.

Since 1996, West Point Grey Academy has gratefully resided on the Jericho Lands, the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam Indian Band), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) Nation and sə̓lílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nation. Honoured to learn and play on these beautiful lands, we endeavour to be a leader in Indigenous education. In creating shared understanding and opportunities, we hope to help foster a more equitable society for all.
