Highlights from Earth Month May

May is Earth Month in the Junior School, and our theme this year is Wonderful Water. Thank you to all teachers and students for participating and for raising awareness about water conservation, locally and globally.
 
Highlights from Earth Month include:
  • Junior kindergarten cleaning up the school gardens
  • Kindergarten enjoying a “Junkology” workshop
  • Grade 1 building a water catchment system over the bike racks to capture rainwater to use in the teaching garden
  • Grade 2 planting a variety of greens in preparation for their salad party, and using reusable lunch containers
  • Difference Makers Water Walk
  • Grade 3 taking on a month long eco-challenge
  • Grade 4 gardening and preparing our school gardens for the summer
  • Grade 5 working with fire fighters at Camp Summit to clear the underbrush in preparation for dry summer months
  • Grades 3, 4 and 5 learning about food waste and sustainability at Camp Summit
  • Grade 6 paddle boarding with Ocean Ambassadors and learning about plastics in the ocean
  • Grade 7 seeing a pod of orcas on their whale watching tour and learning about marine life on their field trip to the Vancouver Aquarium
  • Introduction of the WPGA Bee Sanctuary on campus
