In this increasingly digital and media-driven world, creativity and technical skills are critical. Below are electives and clubs that offer students the opportunity to master the digital world while developing their creativity, analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Destination Imagination (Grade 6)
Teams of seven students work on open-ended challenges, designing and creating all props, costumes and technical elements to bring their solution concept to completion. Teams compete at regional and provincial tournaments; the top teams advance to the Global Finals in Tennessee in May, the largest youth competition of team creativity and problem solving in the world.
Mixed Media Illustration & Collage (Grade 6)
Students learn to create depth and perspective in their drawings as well as create optical illusions using colour, line and shading techniques in exciting new ways.
Graphic Design (grade 7)
Graphic arts starts with a strong foundation. In this course, students explore design principles and both traditional and digital art and media, producing artwork for use in commercial illustration contexts.
WolfTV (grade 7)
For the aspiring broadcaster, actor or filmmaker, this course is for you! Using video production equipment and software, students produce community service announcements, sports updates and event promotions on WPGA’s own TV channel.
Digital Arts (grades 8-9)
Learn the basics of video editing, flash animation and web design in this highly interactive course, which explores information collection and dissemination channels—now and in the future.
Yearbook (grades 10-12)
From cover to cover, students produce the annual school yearbook, working collaboratively and using various applications and skills to design, write, photograph and organize a year in the life at WPGA.
Photography (grade 11)
Take your photography to the next level. Students learn advanced techniques to complete commercial-type work appropriate for school marketing materials as well as personal challenges that explore subject interpretation and self-expression.
Film & TV (grades 11-12)
Calling the next Spielberg—or video animator or editor. WPGA’s top-notch film and television production program teaches students conceptual and practical techniques to produce vignettes and a term-end film. Our graduates have gone on to study at Vancouver Film School and work on major network shows and films.
