Robot to the Rescue!

By Mr. Brian Roodnick, Head of Educational Technology

During Winter Break, one of our grade 11 students was seriously injured in an accident. After the required surgery, doctors ordered several weeks of bed rest and recuperation to allow her bones to heal. Since the student is carrying a heavy academic load, it was difficult for her to be away from classes for several weeks. Fortunately, we were in the process of testing a remote control robot designed for exactly this sort of situation. Testing gave way to reality when the robot was deployed this week, allowing our student to attend classes remotely by controlling the robot from home and us maneuvering the robot around the senior school. The student can see and be seen and can hear and be heard in her classes, and submits assignments electronically. Although she is home in bed, she is present and up-to-date in her classes, thanks to Wally the robot!
