Welcome Message from Mr. Parker, Head of Senior School

Dear Senior School Wolfpack Families:

Welcome back to WPGA—and an enthusiastic welcome to our new students. We are excited about another fabulous year of learning together. As you approach the Senior School you will immediately notice changes to our entrance: new signage, a paved walkway with lighting, and a reimagined entrance to the building. All are designed to communicate a warm, welcoming gathering place and the importance of community. We have also converted three locker rooms into Study Nooks, expanding our spaces for individual study. The floors are polished and sparkling. Staff are prepared and excited to connect with students. Here we go!

It gives me great pleasure to welcome back the following faculty members:

  • Ms. Lindsay Haider, English Teacher, Model United Nations Coordinator
  • Ms. Sarah Calvert, English and Drama Teacher, PEAKS Advisory Coordinator
  • Mr. Braden O’Donnell, Career Education Teacher, University Career Counselling Team
We are also fortunate to welcome these new teachers to the Senior School:

  • Mr. Andrew Field, Director of Outdoor Education & Wilderness Pursuits
  • Dr. Jennifer McQueen, Science Teacher (Chemistry)
  • Mr. Kevin Maloney, Humanities Teacher
  • Ms. Lorna Cheng, Learning Support Specialist, The Study
  • Ms. Megan Lawrence, Learning Support Specialist, The Study
  • Mr. Paolo Lamasan, Science Teacher (Biology)
  • Mr. Sam Taylor, Associate Teacher, Internal Teacher-on-Call

Opening Week for Students
The first day of school is Tuesday, September 5. Grade 8 students are to arrive at 8:20am and report to the senior lobby. All other grades will report to the Upper Gym at 9:30am for the senior school assembly.

Uniform for the first week of school is Ceremonial Uniform, except on Thursday, September 7, when students can wear House-coloured T-shirts. In our opening week, we will be setting tone and reviewing school norms, with PEAKS and House activities, rotation of all classes, and an all-school assembly on Friday.

Important Timetable Changes
School now ends every day at 3:30pm. We no longer have the regular flex-block early dismissals that began when Covid restrictions were in place. Please ensure medical appointments are scheduled during the late start or early release dates below:

  • Wednesday, September 20 (Early Dismissal @ 2:15)
  • Wednesday, November 1 (Late Start @ 9:35)
  • Wednesday, December 6 (Early Dismissal @ 2:15)
  • Tuesday, January 23 (Provincial Assessments 10/12; 8/9/11 dismissed @ 12:15)
  • Wednesday, January 31 (Early Dismissal @ 2:15)
  • Wednesday, April 10 (Early Dismissal @ 2:15)
  • Thursday, April 18 (Literacy Assessment 10 - 2:15 except grade 10)
  • Wednesday, April 24 (Late Start @ 9:35)
  • Wednesday, May 8 (Early Dismissal @ 2:15)
  • Wednesday, May 29 (Early Dismissal @ 2:15)

Regular School Attendance
Please do not excuse your child from PEAKS Advisory (which is now in the middle of the day) or extend vacations during the school year. Our enriched cocurricular program provides many opportunities for students to grow outside specific classes but also leads to significant absences. Further absences due to appointments or vacations should be avoided. When students are not in class, they quickly fall behind and are unable to contribute to the life of our school.

Staying Connected
WolfNet, our School Calendar and The Howl are valuable resources for staying informed of school events. You may also find our Yearly Block Order Schedule a valuable resource. As we navigate the year together, remember that your child's teachers, whose contact information can be found in WolfNet, are your first point of contact for any challenges they are having in the classroom. Contact them immediately if you have questions, concerns, or cause for praise. If you have questions about operational matters or require further classroom support, connect with our senior administrative team. We look forward to happily serving and working alongside you as we continue to shape lives of inquiry, action and joy.

Kind regards,

Jason Parker
