On Wednesday, January 29, William Thornton, CEO and Co-Founder of British Columbia Guide Dog Services, spoke to a class of dog lovers (student and staff alike) about the work his organization does in training dogs for the visually impaired. We also met Justine, a young Labrador in training to be a guide dog, and her handler, Laura.

BC Guide Dog Services, while best known for raising and training guide dogs for the blind, also trains autism support dogs. For those with autism, a guide dog can, among other benefits, support their sense of safety, comfort and control while lowering aggressive tendencies.

We all enjoyed this interesting, informative session, which was organized by grade 12 student Kelsey Louie. Thank you, Kelsey, for your leadership and for highlighting this excellent organization.

Honoured to learn and play on these beautiful lands, we endeavour to be a leader in Indigenous education.
