At WPGA, our behaviours are guided by our core values, one being character driven, in that we model empathy and integrity as the basis for our actions. In nurturing a growth mindset, we nurture students' social and emotional growth, with the goal of inspiring them to be compassionate citizens who care deeply about their peers, their communities and their own wellbeing.
In the Junior School, our counsellors oversee our signature character education program, CARE (Confident, Authentic, Respectful, Empathetic), which uses strengths-based themes in social-emotional learning. CARE cultivates self and social awareness in order to foster the knowledge and skills necessary to express and regulate emotions, demonstrate respect and empathy for others, take care of one's health, and identify and grow strengths of character.
In the Senior School, our PEAKS advisory program emphasizes mental wellbeing, social awareness and personal relationships. Recent presentations include Holocaust survivor Ms. Lillian Boraks-Nemetz; a workshop on screen use, sleep and wellbeing; a screening/discussion of documentary Race To Be Human (focus on racism and role of social media); and The Other People, a panel of community and faith leaders who discussed systemic discrimination in BC.
For all grades, the Positive Education framework, rooted in values-in-action and positive psychology, is embedded into all curricular and cocurricular programs.
