Student Enrichment

Junior School Visual & Performing Arts

In the Junior School, our experienced, professionally trained teachers nurture creativity, confidence, and self-expression in music, drama, and visual arts. Formal music classes start in kindergarten and expand to choir and drama in grade 3. Our instrumental ensemble program (band and strings) begins in grade 4. Electives such as junior jazz band, chamber choir, and ukulele club provide further musical opportunities.

Visual arts and drama enhance the program, with weekly art classes in kindergarten to grade 5 and art-based electives in grades 6 and 7. For drama, students take choir and drama from grades 3 to 5, theatre arts in grade 6, and the grade 7 elective "WPGA Presents," a full-scale production at a nearby theatre.

Every April, Junior School Arts Week celebrates the arts and our students' creativity and talent through student performances and workshops with guest musicians and artists.

These programs develop artistic skills while fostering collaboration, resilience, and communication. Whether rehearsing for a musical, learning harmony in a choir, or experimenting with new techniques in the art studio, students are encouraged to take creative risks and express their individuality. Showcases throughout the year—such as informal concerts, art exhibitions, and the grade 7 production—offer students meaningful opportunities to share their work with peers, families, and the broader school community, reinforcing a strong sense of accomplishment and belonging.
JUNIOR SCHOOL MUSIC

Our program nurtures a love for music through a dynamic and engaging curriculum. Students explore vocal and instrumental music, developing fundamental skills in rhythm, melody, and music theory. Through choir, band, and ensemble opportunities, students build confidence in performance and collaboration. Our music program encourages creativity and self-expression while fostering a strong foundation for future musical pursuits.
