The International History Bee and Bowl (IHBB) are history-themed quiz tournaments for students aged 11–18. IHBB operates in 20 countries around the world. IHBB features a buzzer system and comprehensive, paragraph-length questions that emphasize critical thinking and long-term knowledge of important topics in all eras and aspects of history. This approach encourages students to explore and study on their own, and also provides for a fast-paced, enjoyable competition.
WPGA’s Quiz Club began preparing for the IHBB in the fall, meeting once a week prior to the IHBB regional tournament in February. On May 4-5, our junior varsity team of Logan Higgins, Kai Lee, Kyle Morrison and Alden Chau, all in grade 9, competed at the national tournament in Ottawa. Facing tough competition from across Canada, our team finished 5th, with Logan placing 6th in the Geography Bee.
When they weren’t competing, the team explored several historic sites in Ottawa, including Parliament, the Canadian Mint, the Canadian War Museum, the National Gallery of Canada and the Byward Market. A big shout-out to this fantastic young group, who were absolute gentlemen throughout the weekend and excellent representatives for our school!
