First Responder Applications 2023-2024

By Mr. Dan Butler, Science Teacher

Are you interested in being a First Responder next year? Are you currently in grade 10 or 11? We are now accepting applications for 2023-2024.

To apply, please submit a letter of intent that includes the following:

  • Why you want to be a First Responder
  • How you will apply your First Responder certification when you graduate from WPGA
  • Your experience working with people (e.g. babysitting, WPGA summer camps, Pedalheads volunteer)
Note you must have a current or expired "Canadian Red Cross CPR-C with AED" or higher (e.g. Bronze Cross, Bronze Medallion); a photocopy (not the original) of your certification must be attached to your letter of intent. The CPR-C course may be taken at a future date but must be taken prior to attending the First Responder course.

Please submit your application by Thursday, December 15 at 3:45pm to room 204's mailbox (no exceptions). Only successful candidates will be contacted. More than 25 teachers, administrators and staff will be involved in the selection process.

Reimbursement Policy: Only students who are First Responders for two years (grades 11 and 12) will receive 100% reimbursement of their course fees. Students who serve one year (grade 12) will receive a 50% reimbursement. The cost for the course is currently $450; however, this is subject to change by the course registration date.
