Canadian Computing Competition

By Mr. Alfred Lu, Computer Science Teacher

On February 19, eleven students participated in the Canadian Computing Competition. The University of Waterloo organizes this extremely challenging and difficult competition. Students are given three hours to code solutions to five problems.

The competition pushes students to problem solve in creative and thoughtful ways, taxing their critical thinking skills and logical processing abilities tremendously. The post-competition discussion of the problems was also enriching and invigorating.

Official results will be released later this year.

Here’s a sample coding problem from the competition: Given two rectangles of different sizes, what is the smallest perimeter possible when you put them together?

Participants:
  • Candice Geng
  • Kyle Gu
  • Hugo Chung
  • James Wang
  • Jason C. Zhang
  • Reuben Lavin
  • Kai Healey
  • Henry Boisset
  • Sophie Liu
  • Elliott Deyell
