Service Council Delivers 200+ Pair of Socks to Carnegie Community Centre

By Raeann Cheong ‘26

Thank you, Wolves, for helping Service Council run our successful sock drive!

This frigid February, we were able to deliver an astounding 203 pairs of socks to the Carnegie Community Centre for unhoused individuals on the Downtown Eastside; that’s over 200 people we helped to stay warm!

Service Council had the amazing opportunity to tour the Carnegie Community Centre, colloquially called the “living room of the Downtown Eastside,” which is available for low income adults aged 19 or older for a yearly fee of $1. Here, they have access to various amenities, including wi-fi, bathrooms, an art room, a theatre studio, a gymnasium, a workout centre, and a games room. Every single day, approximately 45 free haircuts are given out, and members can purchase a warm, nutritious meal for $2.

Additionally, Carnegie Community Centre supports unhoused individuals by providing skill-building lessons. There are several classrooms dedicated to teaching important skills such as interviewing and writing resumes.

Service Council is truly grateful to our Wolves for making this possible! Thank you for making a difference in our local community. You can learn more about the Carnegie Community Centre here

Honoured to learn and play on these beautiful lands, we endeavour to be a leader in Indigenous education. In creating shared understanding and opportunities, we hope to help foster a more equitable society for all.
