Grade 6 Community Leaders Visit Food Stash

By the Grade 6 Community Leaders Club

We are grateful to Food Stash Foundation for hosting our grade 6 community leaders earlier this week, when students toured the facilities and practiced sorting the food.

Food Stash collects approximately 130,000 pounds of food per month (that would otherwise go to waste), which the charitable organization delivers to 35 charity partners, 110 households, and 100+ food market members weekly.

One of Ms. Corcoran’s initiatives for our community leaders club is food insecurity and sustainability, and Food Stashers is an excellent example of proactively addressing both concerns in our local communities. Our grade 7s will also tour the facility after Spring Break to help sort food. Thanks to Ms. Shaw, Mr. Peckham, Ms. Corcoran and Mr. Lee for supporting our community leaders!

Since 1996, West Point Grey Academy has gratefully resided on the Jericho Lands, the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam Indian Band), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) Nation and sə̓lílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nation. Honoured to learn and play on these beautiful lands, we endeavour to be a leader in Indigenous education. In creating shared understanding and opportunities, we hope to help foster a more equitable society for all.
