Arts Week 2025 at the Junior School (April 7-11) promises to be an exciting and creative celebration of visual and performing arts. Students will have opportunities to work with local guest artists for hands-on artistic experiences. Scheduled workshops include glass fusing, wet-felting, soapstone carving, Chinese brush painting, and collage techniques. Every morning, there will be student musical performances in the junior lobby (8am-8:20am), with special recess workshops to inspire creativity through self-expression.
To kick off Arts Week, on April 7, we will host an open house from 3:30pm to 4:30pm, which include the following performances:
- Academy Chamber Players and Junior Jazz Band | 3:30-4:30pm, tarmac outside strings room
- Mr. Field Trip (aka Mr. Spencer) | 4pm, Junior School Landing
Throughout the hour, students can embark on visual arts scavenger hunt, taking them around the school to discover clues hidden in the artwork on display. When wandering the halls, enjoy the sound experiment of Car Horn Cacophony, a grade 5 band project that explored the impact of noise pollution on cities. (Listen for their individually composed melodies as they blend into a cacophony—a real-world proposal to combat noise pollution in India.)
On Friday, April 11, we invite students and staff to participate in Dress Creative Day, when they can wear colour, pattern, and any other way to express themselves creatively.
Huge thanks to our Arts Week Committee: Ms. Edge, Ms. Nitta, Ms. Lovatt, Mr. Spencer, Mme. Weir, Ms. Bates, and Ms. Unger. Their hard work and contributions make this event possible. Arts Week is sure to be filled with inspiration, artistic discovery, and community celebration!
