Sustainability Survey Results & Key Priorities

By the Staff Sustainability Committee

A sincere thank you to everyone who shared their feedback and thoughtful suggestions regarding sustainability at WPGA through our Sustainability Survey in January. We received a strong response with 462 replies from parents, teachers, and students. Additionally, focus group discussions with all JK-5 students in their homeroom classes emphasized the importance of sustainability within our community.

The key focus areas identified through this process include food waste reduction, landfill management, and enhancing student learning. These insights will inform future food service programs, purchasing policies, and strategic planning at WPGA.

Notably, nearly 50% of respondents rated the school’s current sustainability efforts as Above Average or Excellent, while 40% rated our current efforts as average. This suggests that while many appreciate the steps we are taking, they also see opportunities for further development.

It was impressive to observe how the learning experiences in our classrooms were reflected in the survey responses. For instance, junior school students spoke about water conservation and Indigenous perspectives on environmental care. Senior school students demonstrated their understanding of carbon emissions, with a high number indicating that carbon emission reduction was a priority.

The overall priorities identified by our school community are summarized on the featured tables.

Honoured to learn and play on these beautiful lands, we endeavour to be a leader in Indigenous education.
