By Mr. Sam Taylor, Varsity Tennis Coach
The Wolves tennis team has been busy honing and showcasing their skills! The team kicked off April with an intensive training camp at the picturesque Bear Mountain resort on Vancouver Island from April 10 to 12. Our athletes dedicated themselves to six hours of professional coaching on the challenging clay courts over two days. While the training was demanding, the team emerged significantly improved and ready for the competitions ahead. Beyond the drills, the camp fostered incredible team spirit through shared meals, a fun bowling outing, and a refreshing hike to a local waterfall. The bond between our players is stronger than ever.
Following the productive training camp, both our senior and junior squads headed to UBC for their respective Independent Schools Association (ISA) tournaments. On April 15, our senior boys faced tough competition, putting up a valiant effort against formidable opponents St. George's and Collingwood. Meanwhile, our senior girls had a fantastic run, demonstrating their skill and determination by defeating York House and Collingwood. They narrowly missed out on a spot in the final after a close match against Crofton, showcasing the immense potential within our young senior teams.
The very next day, April 16, it was the junior boys' turn to compete at the ISA tournament, also held at UBC. For many of our younger players, this marked their first experience with competitive school tennis. Despite facing experienced teams from St. George's and Collingwood twice each, our juniors displayed high spirits and competed admirably. Their hard work and dedication paid off, as they proudly brought home a well-deserved bronze medal!
Overall, April has been a period of significant growth and achievement for our senior school teams. The Bear Mountain training camp provided a crucial boost in skills and team unity, which translated into strong performances at the ISA tournaments. We look forward to seeing their continued progress throughout the season!
