Congrats, Wolves! For our 19th year donating to Project Backpack, we smashed our school record, with a whopping 51 bags collected (that’s 155% more than last year!).
Project Backpack is a Vancouver-based non-profit that provides local underprivileged youth with a durable backpack filled with items to survive on the streets. On April 16, WPGA hosted an assembly, inviting Project Backpack’s board of directors to tell us just how much of a direct impact our contributions make on supporting homeless youth. In the weeks to come, PEAKS classes across grades 8-12 worked together tirelessly to fill at least two backpacks each, with basic necessities ranging from gift cards and shampoo to socks and hairbrushes.
Thanks to everyone’s contributions, 51 unhoused individuals across Vancouver will receive a backpack to help make living on the street a little easier. You can learn more about Project Backpack here and Directions Youth Services here.
Looking to the future, our next service event will be our annual Sleep Out, taking place this year on May 22. Sleep Out is an amazing opportunity for students in grades 10-12 to simulate the night of someone living on the street by giving up their beds for one night to sleep outside the school. Additionally, all participants will be raising $200 for Covenant House Vancouver.
Thank you again, Wolves, for all your hard work, and we’re looking forward to our 20th year of working with Project Backpack in spring 2026!
Since 1996, West Point Grey Academy has gratefully resided on the Jericho Lands, the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam Indian Band), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) Nation and sə̓lílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nation. Honoured to learn and play on these beautiful lands, we endeavour to be a leader in Indigenous education. In creating shared understanding and opportunities, we hope to help foster a more equitable society for all.
