Gwen Hovey, French Teacher
We are thrilled to welcome Gwen Hovey as our new Senior School French teacher. A passionate language and art educator, Gwen recently taught at Crofton House School, York House School, and on the online learning platform VIPKid. As a trilingual person, Gwen has an authentic understanding of the power of mastering a new language for intellectual, social, and personal growth. We're excited for her to share her passion with our students. Gwen holds a Bachelor of Art and French from Western University and a Bachelor of Education (Secondary – IB, Art and French) from UBC, where she was recognized with the BEd Outstanding Practicum Award and the Otto and Marie Pick Award in Education.
Adam Kemp, Associate Teacher
We are delighted to welcome Adam Kemp to WPGA. Adam is an accomplished art and design educator with over a decade of international experience across the IB, IGCSE, A Level, and Project-Based Learning programs. Most recently teaching at Think Global School, Adam has also led art departments at Suzhou Singapore International School and Dulwich International High School in China. His students’ work earned international recognition as a testament to his expertise. Adam has also held over a dozen photography and art exhibitions in the UK. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art: Painting and Drawing, along with numerous certifications in art and design.
Kyle Leis, French Teacher We are excited to welcome
Kyle Leis to our French department. In addition to teaching French and social studies at Norkam Secondary School and Shawnigan Lake School, Kyle brings a passion for outdoor exploration, with an Outdoor Adventure Diploma from Algonquin College. A former kayak guide for Kingfisher Wilderness Adventures, he holds numerous certifications in kayaking, paddle boarding, canoeing, and ski and climbing wall instruction. Kyle has a Bachelor of General Studies from Thompson Rivers University and a Bachelor of Education from UBC.
Charly Pimentel, English Teacher
We are thrilled to welcome Charly Pimentel to the Senior School as an English teacher. Charly brings nearly two decades of experience teaching English, media literacy, and AP courses. He most recently served as Head of English at Collingwood School, where he led a team of 11 teachers in developing and applying a dynamic, student-focused ELA curriculum. During his 11-year tenure at Collingwood, Charly also served as a growth coach to colleagues, a campus lead and student coordinator for diversity, equity, and inclusion, a house commander, and a director of their Grade 12 leadership retreat program. Charly holds a Bachelor of Arts, a Bachelor of Education, and a Master of Arts in Young Adult and Children’s Literature from UBC.
Sarah Power, Science Teacher
We are excited to welcome Sarah Power as our new Senior School Science teacher. With a Bachelor of Applied Science (Civil), Sarah combines strong scientific expertise with a passion for teaching. She most recently taught science, math, and outdoor education at Collingwood School, where she also coached the field hockey and alpine teams and sponsored the Rocket Club. Having spent the last year traveling the world, Sarah is excited to share her globally inspired experiences. She thrives in environments where community, growth, and exploration are at the forefront of learning. Sarah earned the UBC Outstanding Practicum Award and the Michael J. Crooks Memorial Teaching Award during her studies at UBC, where she completed her Bachelor of Education.
Sofia Robins, Math Teacher
We are delighted to welcome
Sofia Robins to our math department. Sofia joins us from Australia, where she most recently taught at St Catherine’s School, an all-girls independent boarding school in Sydney. Before that, she taught middle and senior school IB math for five years at Trinity Grammar School, an all-boys independent IB boarding school, also in Sydney. Sofia holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics Education from Boston University and a Master of Special and Inclusive Education from Newcastle University in Australia. She is currently pursuing a Master of Educational Leadership from the University of New South Wales. An accomplished athlete, Sofia was the captain of the women’s varsity lacrosse team at Boston University. She also supported the U19 Women’s Lacrosse Canadian National Team to a bronze medal at the 2011 World Cup in Germany.
