Bee and Sustainability Club - Honey Extraction Workshop

By Emma, Mira and Quinn from 3FA

Last Thursday, October 2, we made our own honey! Keisha from Alvéole came to our meeting and taught us about bees and extracting honey. In order to extract the yummy honey, first we scraped the top of the wax seal off the honeycomb. Then we put the honeycomb in a machine and spun it to extract the honey. Finally we strained the honey through a sieve. We got to try the honey wax and it was like gum. We also got to take a jar of honey home to share with our family. It was very sticky and so much fun!

Since 1996, West Point Grey Academy has gratefully resided on the Jericho Lands, the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam Indian Band), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) Nation and sə̓lílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nation. Honoured to learn and play on these beautiful lands, we endeavour to be a leader in Indigenous education. In creating shared understanding and opportunities, we hope to help foster a more equitable society for all.
