By Carrie Ma '27 and Team Captains Brooklyn Logue '26 and Brady Fang '26Our varsity swimmers' hard work and dedication led them to an excellent performance at the ISA swim meet on October 9. The Wolves woke up bright and early to put on their caps and goggles for a long day of racing full of blazing fast times and some new school records!
Calder Cannell '27 set a new school record in the 50m Butterfly (B) and swimmers Benny Lin '27, Adrian Lee '26, Andrew Zhong '29 and Jonah Moon '28 broke the 4 x 50m Free relay (OPEN) school record. Whether swimmers were feeling their best or just getting back into things, all swimmers competed with smiles on their faces. The Wolves ended the meet with a total of 633 points, breaking the record for the most points ever won by a team at ISAs. On behalf of all the captains, we are so proud of the amazing group of swimmers this year. What a great meet!
Next Stop: San Diego
After an amazing performance at the ISAs, the team hopped on a plane to Coronado Island, San Diego. Following a late-night stop at In-N-Out, our Wolves spent the next few days training, hanging out at the beach, and enjoying team dinners. On the second day, the Wolves met up with the San Diego Seaport Aquatics (SDSA) team for a fun dual meet, with challenging events and engaging activities, such as the rock-paper-scissors relay.
Once training was over, the team headed to Belmont Park, where we could play at the beach or ride the attractions. Kadence Wong '30 said, “I had so much fun hanging out with my friends. My favourite part of the trip was boogie boarding at the beach.”
The Wolves then traded their caps and goggles for wetsuits and snorkels for an exciting day at La Jolla Cove. Swimmers spent the afternoon snorkelling alongside the seals and schools of orange fish. Megan Lam '30 described, “It was so much fun snorkelling with all the fish! The seals were so cute, and it was so cool when they would swim close to us.”
Swimmers truly embodied the motto “Work hard, Play hard” as they trained tirelessly while creating lasting team memories. Ronin Faber '30 reflected, “This trip allowed me to make some awesome new friends and connect with older kids as well as experience a previously unprecedented amount of independence and responsibility, which allowed me to flourish.”
Props to all the swimmers as the sets were “gnarly” as Coach Read would say!
