Vancouver Youth Model United Nations: 20th Anniversary
By Ann Wang ‘26
This year, the Vancouver Youth Model United Nations (VYMUN) conference, hosted by West Point Grey Academy, is celebrating a truly monumental milestone: its 20th anniversary conference. Returning in two streams, senior school students will have the chance to explore 12 diverse committees at the UBC Alumni Centre from October 24–26, and junior school students will discuss two committee topics at the WPGA senior school on October 25.
To commemorate two decades of sparking leadership, diplomacy, and confidence, this year’s iteration centres around the theme “The Room Where It Happens,” encapsulating the conference’s values of empowering students to become active participants in decision-making, both in committee and beyond.
On top of past traditions, this iteration contains numerous special new initiatives. Firstly, with the “From This Room to That” project, VYMUN 2025 aims to highlight alumni throughout the years and where they are today. This year also marks the inaugural Tracey Lee award, which celebrates Tracey Lee, the founder of VYMUN. This award is a speech competition that embodies the spirit of stepping out of your comfort zone, and gives the opportunity to two delegates to deliver impactful and reflective speeches at the closing ceremony.
Another notable milestone this year for VYMUN is that we are prepared to receive delegates from outside of BC for the first time—flying in from as far as Winnipeg. As part of welcoming these delegates, WPGA will be hosting a preconference friendly debate with the Saint John’s Ravenscourt School on Thursday evening in the senior school.
Whether you’re a returning delegate or attending for the first time, we can’t wait to see you in the room where it happens!

Since 1996, West Point Grey Academy has gratefully resided on the Jericho Lands, the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam Indian Band), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) Nation and sə̓lílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nation. Honoured to learn and play on these beautiful lands, we endeavour to be a leader in Indigenous education. In creating shared understanding and opportunities, we hope to help foster a more equitable society for all.
