Destination ImagiNation is a non-profit organization that provides educational programs for students to learn and experience creativity, teamwork and problem solving. Each year, they reach over 100,000 students across Canada and in more than 30 other countries. This year three WPGA teams had the opportunity to go to compete in the DI regional competition.
Our grade three team was named Myth-Communication. They chose Mythology Mission as their challenge. They had to choose six countries and learn about their cultures and mythical creatures. Then they had to make up a short skit about each country and be ready to present one of them to the appraisers. In the end, they performed about Japan. The second part of the day was the Instant Challenge (I.C.). An I.C. is a problem given on the spot. But we all took an oath not to talk about it, so we can’t tell you anymore.
Corporation Incorporation was one of our grade six teams. They chose a challenge called Unidentified Moving Object. They had to build a device that would move given objects up or down a structure from a height of eight feet. They also had to create a play describing a sales pitch and a problem with an infrastructure. All of this has to be presented within an eight minute time frame.
Partners In Crime was our other grade six team. They chose a challenge called Verses! Foiled Again! During this challenge they had to create a structure out of wood, glue and tin foil that would hold the most weight yet weigh as little as possible. They also had to create a skit about a character that got foiled (not literally) and include 2 verses. One verse had to be written by the team and the other had to be from a book, poem, or song.
All three WPGA teams made it to Provincials, with Myth-Communication and Corporation Incorporation coming in 1st and Partners In Crime coming in 2nd. We are all extremely excited to compete again next month.
On behalf of all of the DI teams at WPGA, we would like to thank our teachers Mrs. Anthony, Ms. Black and Mrs. Bouziane as well as WPGA parent Charles Gadalla for all of the hard work, effort and time that has been put into these long term projects.
It is so much fun to share our ideas and creativity. It was amazing to be a part of it. The Regional competition was a long and exciting day but we wished we could do it all again. We thank our team managers a lot for helping us with our challenge. It would never be the same without them. (A few candid comments from our grade 3 team, Myth-Communication)

Since 1996, West Point Grey Academy has gratefully resided on the Jericho Lands, the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam Indian Band), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) Nation and sə̓lílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nation. Honoured to learn and play on these beautiful lands, we endeavour to be a leader in Indigenous education. In creating shared understanding and opportunities, we hope to help foster a more equitable society for all.
