Just a couple of weeks ago 14 grade 6 students, three teachers and four WPGA parents went down to Knoxville, Tennessee to compete in the Global Finals of Destination Imagination. We all had a blast, it was the best time of our lives.
Both teams, Partners in Crime and Corporation Incorporation, received their personal best scores. Partners in Crime had a great performance and a fantastic Balsa structure that weighed in at only 18.33 grams and held 230 pounds. They placed 45th out of 80 teams. Corporation Incorporation was extraordinary in their acting and with the devices that they built. They placed 21st out of 70 teams. Both teams were very proud of their results.
There were many highlights to this trip; meeting people from all over the world was one of them. We made new friends from such places as New Jersey, Brazil, South Korea, Kazakhstan, California and several places throughout Europe. Another highlight was the celebration party on our final night. We loved running in giant hamster balls, sumo wrestling, rock climbing, pin trading, the giant Twister games and dancing with friends.
Overall, Destination Imagination taught us to how strategize, how important organization is, how to support each other so that we can work as a team, and it stretched our imagination to the limits. Thank you to Mrs. Anthony, Mme. Bouziane, Mr. Lee, all our parents and our amazing school for supporting us.
Since 1996, West Point Grey Academy has gratefully resided on the Jericho Lands, the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam Indian Band), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) Nation and sə̓lílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nation. Honoured to learn and play on these beautiful lands, we endeavour to be a leader in Indigenous education. In creating shared understanding and opportunities, we hope to help foster a more equitable society for all.
