Girls Tennis Team Wins Bronze at Provincials

By Mr. Sam Taylor, Tennis Coach

Last week, the WPGA senior tennis team spent four days in Victoria at the AA Tennis Provincial Championships. The boys team narrowly lost in the quarter final before finishing 8th overall. Although the girls couldn't get past Collingwood in their semifinal,  they emerged victorious against St Michael's University School in the bronze medal match to earn WPGA's first ever senior tennis medal!

The tournament was a brilliant team effort, with particular congratulations to Lea Cote '29, named joint-best female singles player, and Sofia Slingerland '25 and Julia Muscat '26, named joint-best female doubles pair in the competition.

Gabby Hasson '25 and Amy Shen '29 won the decisive doubles match against SMUS to secure the girls their bronze. Salma El-Sheikh '27 and Isabella Chen '28 played really well, winning two doubles matches together. Lucy Yang '28 also experienced her first taste of provincial action.

The boys team were represented by Sawyer Turriff-Pike '25, Cole Chua '26, Henry Liu '26, Oskar Bena '26,  Nolan Taylor '27, James Wang '27, Zander Ip '28, and Matt Haberl '29. Although they didn't reach the medal matches this year, we're confident this young team has a shot at a medal in future years.

Congratulations to all competitors and, on behalf of coaches Mr. Pike and me, thanks for a great season!
