MDI Highlights 2025 (Middle Years Development Instrument)

By Ms. Sarah Fast, Assistant Head of Junior School, and Ms. Krista Scaligine, Junior School Counsellor

In February, students in grade 4 and 6 completed the MDI (Middle Years Development Instrument). This anonymous questionnaire gives students the opportunity to self-report about their thoughts, feelings and experiences in the school and the community. The data is reported back to the school as a grade cohort and is not individualized.

Here are some highlights noted from the data collected from WPGA:
  • Students feel more connected and valued at our school than other districts.
  • Over half of our students in grade 6 have never posted on social media.
  • 76% of grade 4 students and 89% of grade 6 students eat dinner five or more times a week with adults in their family.
  • Students consistently believe that they can make a difference in the world and make it a better place.
Thank you, families, for all the work you do to make this happen!

Since 1996, West Point Grey Academy has gratefully resided on the Jericho Lands, the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam Indian Band), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) Nation and sə̓lílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nation. Honoured to learn and play on these beautiful lands, we endeavour to be a leader in Indigenous education. In creating shared understanding and opportunities, we hope to help foster a more equitable society for all.
