Our Grade 7 Book Club welcomed a very special guest this week: Vancouver author Tanya Boteju, the celebrated writer of Messy Perfect. Book club members gathered for an engaging conversation about writing, creativity, and the power of telling honest human stories. Tanya shared how she develops characters, where her ideas come from, and why staying true to your own voice matters most.
A highlight of this term’s book club has been having Ms. Burnside join us each week. Her enthusiasm for reading and her willingness to dive into discussions with the students helped make every meeting lively and thoughtful.
A huge thank-you goes to Ms. St-Amour, who ran the Grade 7 Book Club this term. Her passion for books and her commitment to creating a welcoming space have helped all of us grow as readers. Thanks to her leadership, book club has become a place for connection, reflection, and discovering stories that stay with us.
It was an unforgettable visit with Tanya Boteju and a wonderful end to a fantastic term of reading together.
Since 1996, West Point Grey Academy has gratefully resided on the Jericho Lands, the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam Indian Band), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) Nation and sə̓lílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nation. Honoured to learn and play on these beautiful lands, we endeavour to be a leader in Indigenous education. In creating shared understanding and opportunities, we hope to help foster a more equitable society for all.
