Arts Week 2018: April 9-13

By Ms. Margot Harms, Senior School Visual Arts Specialist, and Ms. Heather Korlak, Director of Fine and Performing Arts, Junior School

Arts Week 2018 is April 9–13! Hosted by the junior and senior art departments, Arts Week celebrates art is all its forms: visual, musical and dramatic, as well as our students' creativity and artistry.

In the Senior School, Arts Week kicks off with the Opening Ceremonies Barbeque Lunch on April 10, at which the folk band Coldwater Road will perform. There will be strings, dramatic, choral and jazz student performances at recess each day, and students will showcase their talents at the always-fun Coffee House Night on April 10. Other highlights include an art fair, alumni performances, student-led workshops and Visual Arts Celebration. The Closing Ceremonies on April 13 will include a performance by world champion hip hop dancer Travis Lim ’19.

Note the BBQ lunch on April 10 is a closed campus event: students are not permitted off campus. Coffee House Night and the Visual Arts Celebration are open to WPGA families.

Junior School Arts Week Events
In the Junior School, this year’s Arts Week theme is “Inclusion.” Bulletin boards and hallways throughout the school will feature collaborative, colourful student artwork. JK–5 students are excited to work with guest artists and older grades will explore new techniques in various art workshops. Our Opening Assembly (April 9) and Closing Assembly (April 13) are both in the gym; the Junior School Talent Show (1:40pm-2:30pm) is part of the Closing Assembly. In addition, students will be treated to two concerts: one by singer/songwriter Andrea Menard and the other by our wonderful senior school musicians.

See you at Arts Week!
