On October 14, the Wolves swim team competed at the ISA Swim Meet at Watermania. Our grueling early morning practices are paying off, as we had a fantastic showing, with the girls placing 1st, boys 2nd, and team 1st overall.
Among the many achievements for the team, the following performances are highlights:
1st: Sam Gan, Sean Li, Steven Ni, Jerry Zhang; 200m freestyle relay
Mixed
1st: Jacqueline Molnar, Nicolas Dang, Angela Gu, Stuart Wall; 200m medley relay
1st: Stuart Wall, Angelu Gu, Jocelyn Chambers, Jack Carriere; 200m freestyle relay
2nd: Nicolas Dang, Dinah Lowe, Sam Gan, Hadley Gunther; 200m freestyle relay
3rd: Jack Stoodley, Evie Tomita, Malika Agarwal, Jack Carriere; 200m medley relay
3rd: Jack Stoodley, Charlie Ford, Lily Douglas, Leslie Chen; 200m medley relay
A special mention to rookie Jack Stoodley who valiantly swam back-to-back relays, with barely a minute out of the water between races, before claiming bronze in the 200m medley relay. Clearly the Wolves expect nothing short of excellence! Thanks also to Ms. Jones, Mr. Pike, and Mr. Dawson for cheering on our hardworking athletes from the stands. It was an exceptional effort by the entire team, and we wish qualifying swimmers good luck as they train for the zones (October 28) and the provincials (late November).
WPGA also hosted the meet, which in our 8th year has grown to over 16 schools and 330 swimmers. A very big thanks to all the parents who volunteered their time to help make it such a successful meet.
Since 1996, West Point Grey Academy has gratefully resided on the Jericho Lands, the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam Indian Band), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) Nation and sə̓lílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nation. Honoured to learn and play on these beautiful lands, we endeavour to be a leader in Indigenous education. In creating shared understanding and opportunities, we hope to help foster a more equitable society for all.
