Toonie Sale Donations & Drop-off Dates

By the PVG

The Toonie Sale is coming! One of WPGA's most anticipated holiday events is just around the corner—Thursday, December 7 and Friday, December 8—and we need your help to make it a success. At the sale, junior school children have the chance to shop for a special gift for each person on their list, with all proceeds benefitting KidSafe's holiday skating party and Backpack Buddies. For more on these charities, see below.

We request donations of new or nearly new items for our kids to purchase at the Toonie Sale. Popular items include:

  • books in good condition (art, decor, sports, parenting, current events, newer fiction, cookbooks, children's books)
  • DVDs, CDs (no VHS cassettes)
  • jewelry, cufflinks
  • games, puzzles (with all pieces intact)
  • ties, scarves
  • kitchen and wine gadgets
  • toys in good condition (no stuffed animals, please)
  • home decor, e.g. candles, picture frames, festive/holiday ornaments
  • personal care items (must be new), e.g. bath gel, fragrance, wrapped soaps
We also need holiday wrapping paper, gift bags and tissue paper, so please keep us in mind when sorting your decorations and gift wrap supplies.

Drop-off Details
Please drop off donations to the 4th Avenue parking lot November 28, November 30 and December 5 from 8am to 8:45am. Or, deliver donations to your child's classroom beginning November 27.

To Volunteer
We could not run the Toonie Sale without our many volunteers. To volunteer for a shift, click here. Keep in mind we need lots of help with set-up and clean-up, too. We look forward to working with you and thank you for volunteering your time!

KidSafe and Backpack Buddies
KidSafe is a local charity that provides holiday and afterschool programs for at-risk children and youth. Proceeds from the Toonie Sale will support KidSafe's annual skating party as well as the Backpack Buddies program. The skating party is January 2 for 300 children attending KidSafe's winter programs. Backpack Buddies aims to fill the weekend hunger gap for children who rely on school meal programs Monday to Friday. Our grade 6 students will be going grocery shopping with some of the funds from the Toonie Sale to buy food for this program. For the fourth year running, they have committed to making 25 bags of food (containing about 7 meals) on a biweekly basis.

Since 1996, West Point Grey Academy has gratefully resided on the Jericho Lands, the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam Indian Band), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) Nation and sə̓lílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nation. Honoured to learn and play on these beautiful lands, we endeavour to be a leader in Indigenous education. In creating shared understanding and opportunities, we hope to help foster a more equitable society for all.
