Every December, WPGA celebrates Computer Science Education Week by challenging every student to complete the Hour of Code. This year, 2018, marks our fifth year participating in this global event and aligns with our coding and robotics curriculum.
Computer science is changing every industry on the planet. All students should have the opportunity to learn how to create technology. Computer science concepts also help nurture creativity and problem-solving skills to prepare students for any future career.
With the Hour of Code, computer science has been on homepages of Google, MSN, Yahoo!, and Disney. Over 100 partners have joined together to support this movement. Apple Stores worldwide have hosted an Hour of Code, and leaders such as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and former US President Barack Obama wrote their first lines of code as part of the campaign.
