Countdown to Dominican Republic

By Jiayi Li ’20, Service Council

Over Spring Break, 20 students in grades 11 and 12 will travel to the Dominican Republic for our annual service outreach trip. Over the past months, we have been fundraising for school supplies and donations for our partner organization Outreach360 and their Learning Centre in Monte Cristi. This will be WPGA’s sixth consecutive year volunteering in the Dominican Republic, and we are so happy to have grown this relationship over the years.
We’ve attended countless meetings to prepare, discussing different education systems, planning lessons, and practicing teaching in front of our peers. When asked about what we’re looking to most about the trip, Daniella Cass ’19 says she’s “stoked about getting to explore a new culture and being able to help those who live in a different environment.” Nathan Shin ’19 is excited to “get schooled in baseball and work with my classmates.”
As Spring Break nears, we’re counting the days until we can see the smiling faces of the children, explore a new culture, and get some sun!
Thank you to our amazing trip leaders Ms. Logher, M. Dessibourg, Ms. Kimura and Ms. Brenko as well as Ms. Poole, Service Director. This service opportunity would not be possible without their support.
