Project Backpack 2021

By Adam Dawood ‘22 and Vincent Gao ‘22

According to Resonance Consultancy’s World Best Cities 2021 report, Vancouver is one of the best cities in the world to live in. Despite this, many young people across the city are not able to access the same opportunities and services as the rest of us. We at WPGA are lucky to be able to live in safe, supportive environments where we do not have to fear parental abuse, drugs or homelessness. To assist those who find themselves in unfortunate circumstances, WPGA is proud to contribute to the Project Backpack initiative for the 2021 school year.

Project Backpack is a community-based organization that strives to provide essential living items to homeless youth. They have been helping to supply backpacks of personal care items for 14 years, and we hope to add to their legacy of service and community care.

Some of the suggested items that you can donate are listed here and include warm clothing and hygiene products.

Especially given the difficult circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic, many youth across Vancouver are finding it difficult to carry out day to day tasks. Please consider donating—while these may seem like everyday items to us, they can make a huge difference in the quality of life for these individuals.

We will be accepting donations until April 9. Thank you!

Since 1996, West Point Grey Academy has gratefully resided on the Jericho Lands, the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam Indian Band), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) Nation and sə̓lílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nation. Honoured to learn and play on these beautiful lands, we endeavour to be a leader in Indigenous education. In creating shared understanding and opportunities, we hope to help foster a more equitable society for all.
