BC Flood Disaster Fundraiser in the Junior School

By Jazmine Kadkhoda, Victoria Sun and Ava Shatzko, Grade 7

It’s been over a week since the BC flood disaster happened. The Lower Nicola, Coalmont, Yale, Abbotsford, and Chilliwack areas have been severely affected by mudslides and flooding. Approximately 17,000 residents have been evacuated, and other towns are on evacuation alert. In some cases, families have been given just 10 minutes to vacate their homes. Sadly, four people died as a result of mudslides.

Groceries are out of stock, people aren't able to travel and shipping is delayed, as the roads surrounding Metro Vancouver are washed out, collapsed, or submerged in water. With the forecast of rain for the next few days, the situation is probably going to get even worse.

How are we going to help?
We can all help support these communities by donating $2-$5 (or more) on Friday, December 3 on Casual Dress Day. Donations will go to the Canadian Red Cross to help the areas that have been affected and offset the damage that has uprooted thousands of lives. Let’s do our part to help our surrounding communities!
