CAIS Accreditation in Fall 2023

By Ms. Sarah Fast, Assistant Head of Junior School

WPGA is very proud to be a member in good standing of CAIS (Canadian Accredited Independent Schools). CAIS is a network of over 90 independent schools from across the country who must not only meet but also exceed the 12 rigorous CAIS National Standards. These standards ensure that independent schools are abiding by best practices in curriculum, leadership, enrolment, engagement and governance.
As a CAIS school, WPGA leadership, faculty and staff have presented and attended national conferences, completed Leadership Institute modules and extensive professional development, served on accreditation teams, received school innovation grants, and led action research projects. Our students have participated in CAIS student leadership conferences and athletic competitions. Through CAIS, member schools have access to current research, data analysis, and insight into internal and external education trends on a global level.

Every six or so years, each CAIS school undergoes an intensive accreditation process. WPGA’s last CAIS accreditation took place in November 2015. It was an incredibly comprehensive and successful process comprising months of preparation from the Board, school leadership, faculty, staff and parents. Our next CAIS accreditation visit is scheduled for November 2023, when we will be visited by a CAIS review team of peers from CAIS schools across Canada. The accreditation focuses on growth, reflection and action. To introduce the process, Anand Mahadevan, CAIS Executive Director, spoke to WPGA staff, faculty and the Board earlier this month.

Over the next year, we will be inviting constituent groups from our school community to gather, discuss and reflect on who are as a school and to ensure we are exceeding the National Standards. We will keep you updated and look forward to welcoming your insights. As a CAIS school, we are committed to continuous whole school improvement and to engaging our community in this process.
