Senior School Science Teacher / Department Head

POSITION:  Senior School Teacher (Science 8-12 + AP); Department Head (option)
REPORTS TO: Head of Senior School
START DATE: August 27, 2019
CONTRACT: Full-time (1.0), Continuing
 
POSITION SUMMARY
We are currently seeking a science teacher with the qualifications to teach grades 8-12 as well as AP courses. For 2019-2020, we will also be appointing a teacher as department head of science. Should you wish to be considered for the role of department head, please state this in your cover letter. (Applications are welcome whether or not you apply for the department head position.)
 
Teacher Duties and Responsibilities
  • Design and deliver learning experiences that are future-focused and engaging and that follow BC curriculum standards
  • Adapt learning experiences to students' needs as described in individual education plans (IEPs)
  • Conduct formative and summative assessment of student competencies and knowledge, providing regular and current feedback through the school's learning management system 
  • Use technology and media tools effectively in learning design and management
  • Participate in school life and cocurricular activities
  • Model and promote our core values and high standards of behaviour in and out of the classroom
  • Support students and families with open, ongoing communication
  • Work with colleagues to integrate programs and projects across disciplines, as appropriate
  • Participate actively in professional development sessions and faculty meetings

  • Leadership in pedagogy

Teaching Position Qualifications

Required:
  • Valid BC teaching certification, TQS category 5 or higher
  • Team player who enjoys creative collaboration
  • Excellent verbal, written and electronic communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence
  • Self-starter and continuous learner who values and has demonstrated teaching innovation and professional growth
  • A demonstrated passion for working with adolescents
  • Adept at leveraging technology to support learning
Also desirable:
  • Additional qualifications or work experience in science
  • Experience teaching other subject areas (e.g. STEM, math)
  • Experience working in an independent school similar to WPGA
  • Experience with blended learning
  • Positivity, enthusiasm and a sense of fun
