Varsity Girls Soccer 5th at BCs

By Ms. Kelly Macintyre, Varsity Girls Soccer Coach

The senior girls soccer team had a successful tournament at provincials last weekend, ending the tournament in 5th place with four wins and just one loss.

WPGA’s first game was against Fernie. We dominated this game, winning 6-0 with goals from Thea Leavitt (2), Hannah Dodd, Jess Tupper and Katy Wu (2). Hannah Dodd was awarded player of the game.

Next up was a game versus Lake District, which we won 5-0. Goalscorers included Sarah Diamond, Hannah Dodd (2), Jess Tupper and Cara Kovacs. WPGA’s player of the game was Keely Aquilini.

The second day began with a game versus Immaculata. Despite dominating the majority of play, we couldn’t get the ball in the net and lost 2-0. This was a heartbreaking loss for the team, as it put us in 2nd place in our pool; the highest standing we could then achieve would be 5th. However, the team regrouped and just two hours later played an exceptional game versus Similkameen, which we easily won 4-1, with goals from Katy Wu (2) and Hannah Dodd (2). Katy Wu was player of the game.

On the final day, the Wolves dominated St. Andrew’s School 3-0 to finish the tournament in 5th. Thea Leavitt, Anna Maslechko and Katy Wu scored goals in this match and Anna Maslechko was player of the game.

Sarah Diamond had an outstanding tournament and was named to the Tournament All-Star team.

On behalf of the team, best of luck to our eight graduating players, whom we will greatly miss: Sarah Diamond, Hannah Dodd, Natasha Flores-Macon, Thea Leavitt, Tiffany Liu, Gitanjali Madan, Camryn Sykes and Kaitlyn Wu.
