Silent Day February 18

“Saying nothing sometimes says the most.” - Emily Dickinson

With so many issues that need our attention in the world today, we invite senior school students to join us on February 18 for Silent Day, an event that highlights many issues.

On Thursday, February 18, please wear a black face mask and dress in all black (WPGA gear only) to indicate you are participating. Arrive between 7:50am and 8:10am in your village, and your service rep will provide you with a label to go on your mask stating your cause. By taking part, you are vowing to be silent from 8:20am to 3:30pm (unless there is an evaluation that requires you to speak in class).

You are welcome to add five service hours to On Volunteers at the end of the day, and be sure to add a reflection of your experience. By being silent, we can take a big step in raising awareness for so many who are unheard. Let’s make this year’s Silent Day the biggest and most silent year yet!

Since 1996, West Point Grey Academy has gratefully resided on the Jericho Lands, the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam Indian Band), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) Nation and sə̓lílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nation. Honoured to learn and play on these beautiful lands, we endeavour to be a leader in Indigenous education. In creating shared understanding and opportunities, we hope to help foster a more equitable society for all.
