Congratulations, Andy K., on capturing silver at the 25th Annual British Columbia Japanese Speech Contest at the Asian Centre at UBC on Saturday, March 2. To qualify for the competition, students had to submit speeches to the preliminary screening committee. The contest was sponsored by the Consulate-General of Japan to recognize students studying Japanese in British Columbia and the Yukon.

Andy would like to thank Sensei Kimura for all her help in coaching him for this event.

As you may recall from an earlier issue of the Howl, Andy has a gift for languages. In November, Andy took home a 3rd place trophy for Canada at the 5th Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign Secondary School Students in Kunming, Yunnan province, China. He earned the opportunity to compete in this competition by placing 1st (of 104 participants) at the B.C. Chinese Speech Competition in April 2012. Along with his trophy, Andy was awarded a six-month scholarship to a Chinese university.

Way to go, Andy, on all your accomplishments this year. We can't wait to see what language you master next!
