Strategic Direction 2026–2031

West Point Grey Academy stands at a defining moment in its history. As we celebrate 30 years of excellence, launch our refreshed brand, and look toward the future of our campus on the Jericho Lands, we are guided by a clear purpose and bold ambition.

Momentum 31 is our roadmap to 2031—a focused, forward-moving strategy designed to build clarity, coherence, and sustained progress across our school.

CONSULTATIVE PROCESS

This Strategic Plan was developed in fall 2025 through a comprehensive consultation process led by Joanne Turner, external strategic planner and longtime faculty member at UBC Sauder School of Business. Through interviews, surveys, focus groups, leadership retreats, and a review of key planning documents, voices from across our community, including students, faculty, staff, parents, alumni, and Board members, helped shape the path forward. The result is a plan informed by diverse perspectives and grounded in a shared vision for WPGA’s future.

FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL

As West Point Grey Academy celebrates its 30-year milestone in 2026, we find ourselves at a moment that calls for both reflection and resolve. The strength of our community and the care that define daily life at WPGA remain foundational. At the same time, the world our students are entering demands increasing intellectual agility, ethical discernment, and the confidence to lead amid complexity.

Momentum 31 reflects our commitment to meeting that moment with clarity and purpose. This Strategic Plan sharpens the coherence of our academic and cocurricular programs, ensuring they reflect both provincial standards and WPGA’s distinctive educational vision. It advances thoughtful engagement with artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, equipping students and educators to navigate a rapidly evolving landscape with curiosity and integrity. It also deepens the vitality of our community—strengthening relationships, renewing our commitment to Indigenous partnership, and bringing our mission, vision, and values more fully to life across the school.

Enduring schools build from their defining strengths while remaining open to new ideas and disciplined innovation. At WPGA, our mission, Shaping Lives of Inquiry, Action and Joy, calls us to challenge students intellectually, support them relationally, and prepare them meaningfully for the future. Momentum 31 is not a departure from who we are. It is a fuller expression of it.

With this Strategic Plan as our guide, we move forward together: confident in our purpose, aligned in our efforts, and committed to providing an exceptional and future-ready learning experience for every student.

The Power of Four

Through research and reflection, four focus areas emerged as critical to our future: strengthening programs and people, advancing digital and AI literacy, deepening community connection, and securing our long-term sustainability.

These priorities shape our four Strategic Imperatives.

01

Enhancing Programs and Empowering Learners

Develop curious and compassionate thinkers who lead with purpose.

WPGA’s academic and cocurricular programs are a cornerstone of our excellence. Over the next five years, we will:

  • Design a future-focused, integrated curriculum that reflects provincial standards while advancing WPGA’s distinctive educational vision.
  • Strengthen experiential and cocurricular learning to ensure every student discovers purpose and passion.
  • Deepen the integration of Indigenous perspectives through a renewed Indigenous Framework.
  • Expand life-skills, wellbeing, and postsecondary preparation supports.
  • Attract, develop, and retain exceptional faculty and staff who bring expertise and heart to their work.

Outcome: An integrated, inclusive, and future-ready program where every learner is challenged, supported, and known.

02

Thriving with Intelligent Technology

Empower our community to lead with confidence, creativity, and ethical judgment in a digital world.

Artificial intelligence and digital innovation are reshaping education and society. WPGA will act with intention to:

  • Embed ethical reasoning, creativity, and critical thinking across the curriculum.
  • Develop a comprehensive Digital Literacy Framework to guide student learning and professional growth.
  • Integrate AI and digital technologies into learning in thoughtful, ethical, and creative ways that enhance—rather than replace—human skills.
  • Provide ongoing, differentiated training in AI and emerging technologies for faculty and staff.
  • Strengthen cybersecurity, infrastructure, and data stewardship to support safe and seamless innovation.

Outcome: Graduates and educators who confidently and ethically navigate a rapidly evolving technological landscape.

03

Strengthening Our Connected Community

Deepen relationships and celebrate shared purpose across our vibrant school community.

WPGA is known for its caring culture and strong relationships. Building on this foundation, we will:

  • Implement a thoughtful, inclusive community engagement strategy.
  • Bring our refreshed brand and values to life through purposeful storytelling.
  • Expand alumni and parent engagement pathways that affirm belonging and connection.
  • Renew and embed the Indigenous Framework to strengthen relationships and visible expressions of respect.
  • Advance equitable access to programs through strategic allocation of financial assistance and support.

Outcome: A deeply connected, inclusive community where every member feels valued and inspired to contribute.

04

Building Our Future Together

Secure WPGA’s long-term sustainability through visionary planning and courageous leadership.

With discussions underway regarding the future campus and Jericho Lands redevelopment, this moment calls for focused, courageous leadership.

We will:

  • Advance long-term land planning and partnership agreements to support the school’s permanence and future stability.
  • Continue investing in our current campus and facilities to support exceptional learning, school life, and community wellbeing.
  • Develop a master campus plan that reflects the school’s culture of extraordinary teaching and learning.
  • Establish the case for support for a future strategic capital campaign.
  • Implement leadership succession plans to ensure continuity and strength.

Outcome: A sustainable, future-focused campus and governance model that ensures WPGA thrives for generations to come.

Moving Forward—Together

WPGA’s Board and Leadership Team have committed to clear communication, disciplined action, accountability, and living the WPGA Way in every decision.

This Strategic Plan is a clear path to 2031 and beyond.

Since 1996, West Point Grey Academy has gratefully resided on the Jericho Lands, the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam Indian Band), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) Nation and sə̓lílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nation. Honoured to learn and play on these beautiful lands, we endeavour to be a leader in Indigenous education. In creating shared understanding and opportunities, we hope to help foster a more equitable society for all.
