Junior School Arts Week 2026

By Ms. Danielle Unger, Head of Fine & Visual Arts, Junior School

Junior School Arts Week 2026 is almost here, and we are thrilled to share what we have in store! From April 13-17, there are numerous visual art, drama, and music workshops on offer for students in all grades to celebrate the ways the arts enrich our classes and our community! These will be led by our creative staff as well as visiting guest artists. We even have the Cantonese Opera Society coming in to demonstrate stage makeup application and to run a stage combat workshop as well as the Vancouver Ikebana Association, where students will have a chance to see a demonstration of this tradition of Japanese flower arranging.

Everyone is invited to our Arts Week Open House on Monday, April 13 from 3:30-4:10pm, featuring the visual arts scavenger hunt, a performance by our very own Mr. Spencer, and our first Musical Prelude concert in the Upper Gym (beginning at 4:15pm) featuring the 4/5 Chamber Choir, the Academy Chamber Players, and the Junior Jazz Band. In addition, a special dance performance featuring four WPGA competitive dancers will accompany a strings performance. Very exciting!

And on Friday, April 17, we encourage students to wear their most colourful, patterned, or wacky clothing for “Dress Creative Day.”

Since 1996, West Point Grey Academy has gratefully resided on the Jericho Lands, the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam Indian Band), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) Nation and sə̓lílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nation. Honoured to learn and play on these beautiful lands, we endeavour to be a leader in Indigenous education. In creating shared understanding and opportunities, we hope to help foster a more equitable society for all.
