Current Path: Graduating Student at Mt. Allison & Incoming Master of Management at the University of Calgary

Life Since Graduation
I’m currently wrapping up my undergrad at Mt. Allison University, where I’m completing an Honours International Relations degree with a second major in Political Science. My summers have been anything but quiet; two years ago, I launched a brand-new summer sailing program at the Kitsilano Yacht Club, and last summer I was on exchange at Waseda University in Tokyo. This coming summer, I’m excited to implement a national, first-of-its-kind Keel Boat program at KYC. I’ve also enjoyed getting involved in campus life—last November, I started the Mt. Allison Movember Society and raised over $500 for Movember Canada. Next September, I’ll be heading to the University of Calgary to begin their Master of Management program.

My Path to Mt. Allison
When it came time to apply for university, I looked at UBC, Calgary, Western, and Huron, but I ultimately chose Mt. Allison. It’s the top-ranked undergraduate university in the country and has the best undergrad International Relations program nationally. Beyond the academics, I wanted an adventure—moving out east was something totally different from Vancouver, and it’s been quite the journey! For my Masters, I chose Calgary because their program is incredibly efficient; it’s ten months of core business skills plus an internship with no "fluff," which is exactly what I was looking for.

Lessons That Stuck with Me
Academically, the most valuable skill I took from WPGA was how to write. I have to give a special shoutout to Mrs. McGee and her surprise in-class essays. She used to give us three specific things to work on for the next assignment, and if you nailed all three, your mark would go up by 1%. It became a bit of a game for us in Grade 11! Beyond the classroom, being a swimmer taught me how to handle a heavy workload. It gave me that "head down, get to work" mentality that serves me well whenever things get busy.

Fond Memories of the Pack
Easily my favourite memory was winning Swim Provincials in Grade 12. We were the first team to beat St. George’s in the overall category since 1998. As a double-A team beating a triple-A team, it felt like the crowning achievement of our final year. We put in so much hard work, and seeing it pay off like that was incredible. Aside from swimming (where I served as captain), I was also involved in the Trivia Club and spent six years in Model UN.

The People Who Inspired Me
Mr. Read really taught me the value of hard work. During swim sets, he used to tell us we had to "break through a brick wall," and that if we died trying, he’d throw us a great funeral! That kind of intensity stays with you. Mr. Bendl was another great influence; he really opened my mind to the many different ways we can understand and interpret the world around us.

A Wish for the Future
My hope for WPGA over the next 30 years is that it continues to produce dynamic, out-of-the-box thinkers. In a world where it’s so easy to get stuck in social media echo chambers, I find that WPGA grads are much better at participating in genuine, independent thought. I hope the school keeps fostering that.

Advice for Students: Focus less on the grades and more on the enrichment that happens outside the classroom. Your life isn't defined by your GPA, but by the impact you make on the world. I’ve been trying to live as if I have an autobiography to write—but first, I have to do something worth filling the pages!

Fun Fact: I’m a huge sailor. I’m incredibly proud of helping to grow the sailing community and raising the quality of programming in Vancouver since I graduated.
