LITERARY STUDIES 11 HONOURS

Grad Req’t: Alternate Required Course

Prerequisite: Recommendation from the English Department.

Students wishing to be considered should love reading, and thinking about, and talking about ‘big ideas’.This course, a follow-up to Literary Studies and Composition 10 (English 10) Honours, is designed to develop skills for students intending to take AP English Language or AP English Literature in Grade 12. Taught as a college-level seminar, LS11 Honours supports the development of individual student voices through consciously non-competitive discussion and personalized writing coaching.  Recognizing the impact of differing personal, social, and cultural perspectives will enable students to connect more meaningfully to themselves and to other people.  Completion of this course does not guarantee placement either in AP Language or AP English Literature the following year. This course satisfies the Language Arts 11 requirement for graduation.

Since 1996, West Point Grey Academy has gratefully resided on the Jericho Lands, the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam Indian Band), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) Nation and sə̓lílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nation. Honoured to learn and play on these beautiful lands, we endeavour to be a leader in Indigenous education. In creating shared understanding and opportunities, we hope to help foster a more equitable society for all.
