Miles Anthony '18 Visits Sustainability Club

By Emi Moon, Emma Yeung, Aadi Kumar, Grade 3

Today, Miles Anthony ’18 visited our very own Sustainability Club. We were very excited to meet him and learn about his job.

Miles talked to us about how we can use electricity in more sustainable ways. He explained that sustainable energy helps take care of the Earth and protects our planet for the future. He taught us about wind power and solar power, and how these energy sources do not pollute the air.

One cool fact we learned was that some wind farms use sheep to cut the grass instead of machines! This helps save energy and keeps the land healthy.

Miles works for a company called EDP, which is based in Brazil. His company builds and develops different kinds of renewable energy, including wind, solar, hydro, and geothermal power. EDP provides energy for big companies like Amazon, McDonald’s, and Google. These companies pay for the clean energy, which helps EDP continue to research and create new ways to make renewable energy even better.

We learned a lot from Miles and feel inspired to make smarter choices about energy and help the environment. It was an exciting and informative visit!

Since 1996, West Point Grey Academy has gratefully resided on the Jericho Lands, the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam Indian Band), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) Nation and sə̓lílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nation. Honoured to learn and play on these beautiful lands, we endeavour to be a leader in Indigenous education. In creating shared understanding and opportunities, we hope to help foster a more equitable society for all.
