Last week, seven students from the senior school (Raeann C. ‘26, Elliot D. ‘26, Ariel L. ‘26, Natalie Z. ‘28, Sabri S. ‘28, Kyla L. ‘28, Zoe P. ‘30) and Mr. Hatt took a trip down to Carnegie Community Centre to drop off socks for people in need. It has been an annual tradition for Service Council to run a sock drive. We toured Carnegie Community Centre and learned how we can provide warmth to others during this chilly time.
It was a thought-provoking moment to see another side of Vancouver that we are typically shielded from and learn how much a simple drive can do for them. Together, we learned lots from this experience, like how the community centre provides meals under $2, resources they offer to the public (including the library and gym), and other initiatives that we can support, such as utensil drives. We hope this inspires you to continue getting involved with Carnegie Community Centre and once again, thank you to everyone who participated in our sock drive this year!
Since 1996, West Point Grey Academy has gratefully resided on the Jericho Lands, the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam Indian Band), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) Nation and sə̓lílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nation. Honoured to learn and play on these beautiful lands, we endeavour to be a leader in Indigenous education. In creating shared understanding and opportunities, we hope to help foster a more equitable society for all.
