Plot Summary

Into the Woods, by Stephen Sondheim (music & lyrics) and James Lapine (book & direction) begins as any great fairy-tale would--- with “Once Upon a Time.” Stories of great fairy-tale characters are woven together in this clever and touching story; Cinderella (Shireen Dalbey, gr. 12) is anxious to escape her evil stepmother (Malika Agarwal, gr. 11) and stepsisters (Fortune Aknin, gr. 10 and McKerron Scott, gr. 11), Jack (Jack Anderson, gr. 11) is forced to sell his precious cow, Milky-White (Ben Nakhuda, gr. 10), and the Baker(Ryan Schmidt, gr. 12) and his wife (Emmeline Tovey, gr. 12) are desperate to have a child. When the Witch (Naomi Levy, gr. 12) appears and reveals a curse she has placed on their house, the Baker and his wife set out on a journey into the woods to collect the ingredients to reverse the spell. On their journey, they encounter characters in the woods who are trying to fulfill their own wishes. But granting a wish is never simple, and the characters must come to face their own poor choices along the way. A poignant and moving musical that carries a cautious message: Be careful of the things you say, children will listen. We hope you will step Into the Woods with us!
